Hello and Welcome to the University of Chicago Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship Program!
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is located on the 3rd and 4th floors of Comer Children’s Hospital. The PICU is comprised of 30 beds and well equipped to provide the most advanced therapies and procedures used in the management and treatment of critically ill children. The PICU admits approximately 1500-1700 patients annually and our pediatric sedation service, run by PICU faculty, provides services for upwards of 1700 children per year.
Comer Children’s Hospital, located on Chicago’s South Side, houses 172 acute inpatient pediatric beds and holds designation as a Level 1 Trauma Center which is an important service provided to this resource-limited area. Comer Children's Hospital is the only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center on the South Side of Chicago, and our PICU admits critically ill children via the University of Chicago AeroNetwork Transport Team from hospitals around the region. The medical providers at Comer are comprised of a full-complement of pediatric sub-specialists with regular open collaboration, multi-disciplinary discussions and care as well as scheduled joint conferences. Additionally, because our hospital is located on the University of Chicago campus, there are ample opportunities for thoughtful discussion and collaboration for research and scholarship.
We recruit highly motivated and intellectually curious physicians from a variety of backgrounds into our fellowship program and can accommodate 3 fellows per year. The fellows that graduate from our program thrive in an environment that nurtures their individualism and burgeoning autonomy while developing clinical decision making skills, deeper medical knowledge and providing guidance for scholarship experience. Our mission is to train the next generation of pediatric critical care physicians to not only be outstanding clinicians but also inquisitive and lifelong learners and scientists who will continue to contribute to the field.
We look forward to meeting you on the virtual interview trail this coming fall!
